The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel alert informing Romanian citizens who are or wish to travel to the Hellenic Republic regarding the amendments made by the new Greek Road Code regarding their sanctions and their application in case of non-observance of the legal provisions.
1. The non-use of the safety belt or helmet for motorcyclists shall be sanctioned by the lifting of the driving license and of the vehicle registration plates and certificates for a period of 60 days.
2. The use of the mobile phone by the driver on the move without a Bluetooth device or without placing the phone in a special place to activate the loudspeaker shall be sanctioned by the lifting of the driving license and of the vehicle registration plates and certificates for a period of 60 days.
3. Driving the vehicle by a person having the alcohol concentration of:
– 0.50-0.80 g / l in the blood or 0.25-0.40 mg / l in the expired air shall be sanctioned with a fine of 200 Euro and immobilisation of the vehicle;
– 0,80-1,10 g / l in the blood or 0,40-0,60 mg / l in the expired air shall be sanctioned by a fine of 700 euro, lifting the driving license for 90 days and immobilizing the vehicle;
– over 1.10 g / l in the blood or over 0.60 mg / l in the expired air is sanctioned with the lifting of the driving license for a period of 180 days, with a minimum of two months imprisonment, a fine of 1,200 euros, the lifting registration plates for a period of 10 days to 6 months (based on the decision of the competent court) and immobilisation of the vehicle.
Drivers who are relapsing within 2 years and who are found having a blood alcohol concentration of more than 1.10 g / l are punished with the lifting of the driving license for a period of 5 years with a prison term of at least 6 months, a fine of EUR 2,000, the lifting of the registration plates from 10 days to 6 months (based on the decision of the competent court) and immobilisation of the vehicle.
4. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km / h shall be sanctioned by a fine of EUR 350 and the lifting of the driving license on the spot for 60 days.
5. Failure to comply with the red traffic light is sanctioned by a fine of 700 Euro and lifting the driving license for 60 days.
6. Failure to observe the meaning of the “STOP at intersection” indicator shall be sanctioned by a fine of EUR 700, the on-the-spot lifting of the driving license and the vehicle registration plates and certificate for 20 days.
7. Performing dangerous maneuvers shall be sanctioned by a fine of EUR 700 and the lifting of the driving license for 30 days, as well as of the plates and of the vehicle registration certificate for 10 days.
8. Stationing – illegal parking shall be sanctioned by a fine of 40-150 Euros, as the case may be, and lifting of the driving license as well as of the plates and of the vehicle registration certificate for 10 days.
9. The blocking of wheelchair ramps or parking facilities for disabled persons shall be sanctioned by the lifting of the driving license and of the license plate and certificate of the vehicle for 60 days.
10. The use of the emergency lane for travel, irrespective of its duration, shall be sanctioned by the lifting of the driving license, as well as of the vehicle registration plates and certificate for 60 days.
11. The constant movement of heavy trucks and buses on the left lane or the use of this overrunning belt to capture the right-handers on this belt shall be sanctioned by lifting the driving license on the spot for 60 days.
12. Disposing of objects, objects or substances polluting or causing a fire or accident, including cigarettes, while on the move, shall be sanctioned by the lifting of the driving license and of the vehicle registration plates and certificates for 60 days.
13. Payment of one-half of the fine within 10 days was abrogated. The fine is paid within 15 days to the Greek Post Office or to the City Hall where the traffic police department is responsible for the fine.
